Ms. Gloria Small Clarke: Advocate, Leader, and Humanitarian

Ms. Gloria Small Clarke is a dedicated nurse, passionate advocate for children’s rights, and committed community leader. Renowned for her genuine kindness and unwavering passion for human rights, she is recognized as a fearless leader who speaks out on important issues and represents the community both locally and internationally.

Gloria co-founded the Durham Community Action Group in 2008, focusing on mobilizing young people regarding mental health and high-risk students. She aims to develop employment opportunities and empower young Black individuals to excel in education. Currently, she serves as the Chair of the Durham Community Action Group and Vice-Chair of the Trinidad and Tobago Heritage Group.

Her notable achievements include representing Ontario at the United Nations in Geneva in 2012, participating in the International African Diaspora Heritage Conference in 2011, and receiving an Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree in 2020. Gloria was also recognized in the book “Trinidad and Tobago in Canada: Together We Aspire, Together We Achieve” and received the Queen Elizabeth II 70th Coronation Pin in 2022.

In 2023, Gloria was awarded the Civic Adult Award for her transformative impact in the Town of Ajax. In 2024, she received the Ontario Volunteer Service Award for her outstanding community contributions, particularly through her work with the Durham Community Action Group.

Gloria firmly believes, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and her tireless efforts continue to inspire and uplift those around her.
